Drawing for joy> Drawing for validation
In this lesson, we’ll break down the cycle of creating art for validation instead of for yourself. If you have been taught that drawing must be useful for others, or lead to a professional career or have lived with the pressure on your back to get positive reactions from people it can affect the way you draw.

Break the cycle
Here, you’ll learn to quiet those critical voices, refocus on what feels good to you, and start praising your own progress instead of relying solely on external approval. By shifting your mindset toward positivity and self-trust, you’ll reconnect with the excitement of creating purely for yourself and build a healthier, more confident relationship with your art.

Art is and always will be subjective
In this lesson, you’ll explore how your art is shaped by past experiences, influences, and feedback—and learn how to let go of limiting beliefs, comparisons, and self-doubt. By examining the conscious and subconscious choices in your work, you’ll open space for more freedom, experimentation, and self-expression. The goal is to recognize your potential, trust your unique vision, and create without being confined by trends or outside expectations.

Drop The Self Doubt!
It’s okay to explore beyond the limits you think you have. Like finding the right song for your range, trying new artistic styles can reveal strengths you didn’t know existed. Stay curious, question old beliefs, and follow what genuinely excites you. Avoid what drains you and lean into the mediums and styles you’ve been afraid to try—you might discover something amazing.

Discover Your Voice
You don’t need a degree or outside validation to be an artist. Formal education can offer tools and structure, but it’s not what defines your worth or vision. Passion can’t be taught, and institutions can’t decide your purpose—you do. Use opportunities that help you, ignore what doesn’t, and remember: you’re an artist because you chose to be, not because anyone stamped it on a paper.

Identity, Influence and Potential
This chapter focuses on building self-worth as a core part of artistic growth. You’ll learn how confidence shapes your creative work and why external praise alone can’t replace inner value. We explore how low self-worth limits experimentation, and how a strong sense of identity allows deeper artistic purpose, influence, and fulfillment beyond likes or validation.

You have no limits
This lesson invites you to let go of limits, quiet comparison, and trust your own way of creating. You don’t need rules or a “manual”—just your instincts. If you were the only person in the world, how would you draw? Start there. You’re free to explore, experiment, and enjoy the process. What happens next is entirely up to you.

Practice Makes Habits
This lesson challenges the idea that practice makes perfection—practice makes habits. If you keep forcing yourself to create what you don’t enjoy, you’ll only learn to dislike your art. Instead, you’ll explore the power of drawing what genuinely feels good. When you follow your curiosity, skill grows naturally. Let yourself create without rules, without guilt, and see what happens when you truly allow yourself to enjoy it.

Get to know your instructor
I'm here! I have been drawing since I was a kid and then formally educated for 9 years! I was very lucky to attend the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts and made my way to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, graduating with a BFA in illustration. I am the owner of DoodlesByCam and run a small youtube channel. I’ve studied under many working professionals that have collaborated with companies such as Nickelodeon, Kohl’s, Archie comics, and penguin publishing house! I love making and designing stickers and believe it or not, I am still growing with the intention to extend my work in new ways such as children’s book illustration, surface design, and possibly character design!
